Canadian shooting guard Negus Webster-Chan signs with Montréal Alliance

The Montréal Alliance announced Sunday that it has signed Canadian shooting guard Negus Webster-Chan for the 2023 season of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). The Montréal team also announced that American point guard Blake Francis, injured since June 13, and first-round draft pick Aryan Sharma have been released.


A six-foot-seven shooting guard from Scarborough, Ontario, Webster-Chan played the 2022-23 season in Taiwan with Kaohsiung after spending the previous with Tainan, also in Taiwan, averaging 9.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.


Webster-Chan played the 2019 and 2020 CEBL seasons with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, where he helped the team win the inaugural 2019 CEBL title with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists in the championship game. The Canadian also played seven games with the Ottawa BlackJacks in 2020, averaging 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 18.5 minutes per game.


From 2016 to 2018, Webster-Chan played in the NBA G League with the Raptors 905 and reached the championships finals in each season. In 2016-17, he won the NBA G League title against the Rio Grande Vipers alongside Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet.


At the college level, Webster-Chan posted an average of 5.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 21.6 minutes in 62 games split between the University of Hawaii and the University of Missouri, where he played alongside Alliance point guard Michael Dixon Jr. In 2014-15, with the University of Hawaii, the Scarborough native finished the season ranked sixth in the Big West Conference in three-point shots made (64) and ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.410).


Webster-Chan joins Kemy Ossé, Alain Louis, Elijah Ifejeh and Nathan Cayo, all four back with the Alliance for a second consecutive season; Canadians Mamadou Gueye, Quincy Louis-Jeune, Biniam Ghebrekidan and Christian Rohlehr; U Sports draft pick Bahaïde Haïdara; 2022 CEBL Second Team All-Star Ahmed Hill; Americans Michael Dixon Jr. and Treveon Graham, and international player Evans Ganapamo as the 14th member of the team for the 2023 season.
