Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Sunday that they have signed American forward Marquis Collins to their roster. Collins played two seasons with the University of Missouri - St. Louis, and one season with Delaware State during his six years in college. The versatile forward just finished a season with Newfoundland Rogues of The Basketball League (TBL), where he led the team to the Western Conference Final where he had a career-high 34 points and 11 rebounds. The six-foot eight Pennsylvania-native will fill in for Malik Benlevi while he is on the Rattlers injury reserve.
“He brings a great combination of skill and athleticism to our front court.” said Rattler General Manager Barry Rawlyk “Marquis has shown himself to be a tough competitor that plays with a high motor.”
In his rookie professional season with Newfoundland Rogues, Collins played 26 games averaging 17.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. He helped lead the Rogues to the TBL post-season making it through the first two rounds of playoffs. During his time with the Rogues, he set a career-high 34 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
Prior to his professional career, Collins attended Chester High School in Chester, Pennsylvania. As a senior, he averaged 12.1 points per game and earned All-Delaware County Second Team. He committed to Delaware State University in NCAA D1. In the 2016-17 season, Collins was a redshirt freshman. He saw the court in 2017-18 season playing 28 games averaging 9.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 19.4 minutes per game while starting 12 games. Before playing for Missouri – St. Louis, Collins sat as a transfer in 2018-19 and redshirted for the 2019-20 season. Collins played two seasons for Missouri – St. Louis averaging 4.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 10.5 minutes in 45 games played. In both seasons with Missouri – St. Louis, the team finished second place and first place in their conference.
