CALGARY, AB - The Calgary Surge have signed six-foot-four guard Sean Miller-Moore for their 2023 inaugural season, the team announced Tuesday.
Miller-Moore most recently represented the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) with the Brampton Honey Badgers at the Basketball Champions League Americas tournament where he appeared in six games and averaged 9.8 points per game. In 2022, Miller-Moore made his CEBL debut with the Guelph Nighthawks where he averaged 7.0 points per game and shot 54.4% from the field.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Rugzy in the past and I can say he is a very talented and coachable player. I have no doubt that he will deliver a fun and entertaining brand of basketball to the city of Calgary,” said Surge General Manager, Shane James.
The six-foot-four guard from Brampton, Ontario, recently finished his degree at Grand Canyon University in Arizona. He finished his senior year averaging 7.2 points per game, 1.3 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 0.5 steals. He played 30 games, averaging 20.4 minutes per game.
After attending high school at Thornlea Secondary School, he played at Moberly Area Community College in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). He played one year with Oregon State before transferring to Grand Canyon to finish his final two years.
“I am extremely excited to start this new chapter of my basketball career in Calgary. I have only ever heard good things about the city, and I can’t wait to show Surge fans who I am as a player and as a person,” said Surge guard, Sean Miller-Moore.
As part of the Grand Canyon Antelopes, he led the Western Atlantic Conference (WAC) in games played during the 2020-21 season. That same year, he came sixth overall in the WAC for two-point field goal percentage. In 2022, he was invited to participate in the Great Clips Slam Dunk Championship, where he got a perfect score for his first round of dunks. He was also named one of SportsCenter’s Top 10 repeat slam artists for that year.
About the Calgary Surge
The Calgary franchise originated as the Guelph Nighthawks in 2018, one of the six founding members of the CEBL. The organization was relocated from the league’s smallest market to Calgary in August 2022 as part of the growing league's business strategy to have teams in Canada’s largest metropolitan areas. Chairman Usman Tahir Jutt and Vice-Chairman and President Jason Ribeiro saw an opportunity to bridge Calgary’s diverse communities together through sport and entertainment and to create a sense of belonging.
