EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday they have signed Canadian guard Tevaun Kokko to their 2023 roster. The former OUA standout is currently playing for Bisons Lomiaa of the top-tiered Finnish Korrisliga.
“I’m excited to play at home in Canada and grateful that I’m able to start my CEBL career here,” said Kokko. “The Stingers are a top notch organization and have championship history, I’m grateful to be a part of that. I’m looking forward to the experience and helping us win games in any way I can.”
The 6’0 point guard split his U SPORTS career with the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks and the TMU Bold (formerly the Ryerson Rams). During the 2016-17 season with the Golden Hawks, Kokko put up averages of 19.1 points and 3.0 assists per game while starting 20 games. For his efforts he was named an OUA All-Rookie Team, OUA Second Team All-Star, Golden Hawks Rookie of the Year, and Golden Hawks MVP. He followed up the next season with 19.3 point and 3.1 assist averages and was once again named OUA Second Team All-Star and Golden Hawks MVP.
Kokko would suit up for the Ryerson Rams in 2019-20, increasing his scoring to 23.5 points per game in 21 games. He would up his assist average to 5.1 per game and help guide the Rams to a 19-9 record. He would be named Second Team All-Canadian, OUA First-Team All-Star, and Rams Team MVP.
He signed his first professional contract with BC Nokia of the Korrisiliga in 2021 following the canceled 2020-21 U SPORTS season. In his rookie year he averaged 10.4 points per game in 18 games played. This season Kokko has spent time with BK Ogre of the Latvian-Estonian League before signing with his current team Bisons Lomiaa of the Finland 1st Division A, the second tier in Finland, where he is averaging 19.3 points per game in his first 6 games with the club.
Kokko is the fifth player signed to the 2023 Stingers roster. The Stingers will tip-off their 2023 season in Calgary against the Surge May 27 before heading back to Edmonton for a rematch on May 28 at 4pm. Tickets are available online at www.thestingers.ca/tickets, or by contacting the Stingers front office via phone (1-87STINGERS) or email ([email protected]).
