Shooting Stars Re-Sign 2020 NBA Draft Pick Jalen Harris

The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have re-signed 6’5” guard, Jalen Harris. Harris, the Toronto Raptors 59 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, averaged 19.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals in 31.6 minutes per game for Scarborough last season. 


“Jalen was the centrepiece of our team last season and we are thrilled to have him back,” said general manager Brady Heslip. “Jalen's physicality and skill set is at an NBA level, which he put on full display with his performance last summer. Jalen is a winner, and his competitive spirit and desire to bring a championship to Scarborough is going to be a driving force in our locker room. We expect Jalen to have another breakout season and take on a leadership position to set the winning culture that we need for our team.”


The All-CEBL first team star signed to the New York Knicks training camp roster in September. He was delegated to the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G League in October but missed the majority of the season due to a hand injury. While playing for the Raptors during the 2020-21 season, Harris averaged 7.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 13.1 minutes per through 13 games. He scored an NBA career high 31 points on May 14 in his hometown Dallas versus the Mavericks.

   

The Nevada alum averaged 21.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 31.7 minutes per game through 30 games during his final year of college. He was named to the Mountain West first team (players and coaches), named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year, NABC and USBWA all-district, Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week and three time MW Player of the Week.


Following an impressive inaugural season, the Shooting Stars open their 2023 season on May 26 at the CAA Centre, in a rematch of last year’s CEBL championship game versus the Brampton Honey Badgers. Scarborough welcomes the Winnipeg Sea Bears to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre for their first home game on June 2. Tickets are on sale now. For more information on the team and schedule visit
