Rattlers Add Versatile Wing to Roster Ahead of East Road Trip

Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed American wing Quenton DeCosey to their roster. DeCosey played four seasons with Temple University, where Head Coach Dean Demopoulos coached for 17 years. The six-foot five New Jersey-native will replace Anthony Mathis in the American roster spot. DeCosey is coming off a successful season in Hungary.

 

“He finished a really strong season in Europe and became available to us” said Rattler General Manager Barry Rawlyk “He has a proven track record wherever he has played. His experience., poise, and toughness will instantly impact our roster. Quenton is a very personable and well-spoken guy, and will definitely be a player Rattlers fans will enjoy”

 

During his professional career, DeCosey has played with 11 professional teams in the NBA Summer League, NBA G League, Italy, Greece, Poland, and Hungary. He has a career average of 11.0 points, 1.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 24.7 minutes in 172 professional games.

 

DeCosey made his professional debut playing in the NBA Summer League for the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the 2016-17 season. He played four games averaging 4.5 points, 0.5 assists, 1.3 rebounds, and 13.1 minutes. He went on to play in Legadue Gold League in Italy for the 2016-17 season, where he played with Universo De’Longhi and Pallacanestro Teate. Between the two rosters, he played 25 games averaging 9.4 points, 1.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 24.7 minutes. He joined ASA Koroivos in HEBA A1 in Greece for the 2017-18 season where he averaged 13.0 points, 1.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 28.5 minutes over 26 games. He set a career-high of 16 rebounds on January 13th. For the 2018-19 season, DeCosey tried out for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League. He played eight games with the Red Claws averaging 4.6 points, 1.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 9.5 minutes. The Salt Lake City Stars added him to their roster for eight games, where he averaged 5.1 points, 1.4 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 16.9 minutes. DeCosey returned to playing his next three seasons in Europe playing with teams in Greece, Hungary, and Poland. He averaged 12.0 points, 1.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 25.3 minutes over 64 games; on April 9th 2022, he set his career-high of 31 points. DeCosey finished the 2022-23 season with Alba Fehervar in NBIA in Hungary. He averaged 12.3 points, 1.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 27.0 minutes in 37 games. The team finished with second place finish and a 26-11 record.

 

Prior to his professional career, DeCosey attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey. He led St. Joseph to their first state championship in 2012 alongside Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves. DeCosey committed to Temple University in 2012. During his four-year collegiate career, DeCosey averaged 11.7 points, 2.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 27.7 minutes in 129 games for the Temple University Owls. As a freshman, he played in 28 games and the team made an appearance in NCAA March Madness with an exit in the second round. In his senior season, he led the entire conference with total points (526). DeCosey was a unanimous selection to the 2015-16 AAC First Team, and also named to the Philadelphia Big 5 First Team and NABA All-District First Team. Temple claimed an AAC first place finish in his senior season and an overtime loss in the first round of NCAA March Madness.

The Rattlers will play their next game on Wednesday June 28th 2023 against the Montreal Alliance at the Verdun Auditorium, the game will be broadcasted live on TSN.

Le Canadien de 6 pi 4 po revient chez les BlackJacks après avoir établi des sommets personnels la saison dernière dans toutes les principales catégories statistiques, notamment les points par match (12,2), les passes décisives par match (5,0), les rebonds par match (3,2) et les minutes par match (28,2), lors de sa troisième saison dans la LECB. « Nous sommes ravis d’accueillir à nouveau Keevan à Ottawa pour un autre été, » a déclaré James Derouin, directeur général des BlackJacks. « En tant que fier Canadien et joueur remarquable du réseau U SPORTS, il apporte une combativité, un leadership et une capacité de création de jeu qui correspondent parfaitement à notre identité. Au cours de sa carrière internationale, il a également joué pour LWD Aris Leeuwarden et le Port of Antwerp, affichant une moyenne de 15,4 points par match en championnat. Sélectionné au premier tour du repêchage U SPORTS 2021 de la CEBL par les Hamilton Honey Badgers, le joueur de 26 ans a amorcé sa carrière professionnelle cette même saison en inscrivant huit points, réussissant ses trois tirs sur trois lors du match du 26 juin 2021 à Edmonton. Ayant connu une carrière universitaire remarquable, Veinot a représenté l’Université Dalhousie de 2017 à 2022, récoltant de nombreuses distinctions. Il a notamment été nommé sur la première équipe d’étoiles du Sport universitaire de l’Atlantique (SUA) en 2019-2020 et 2021-2022, sur la première équipe d’étoiles canadiennes en 2019-2020, ainsi que sur l’équipe des recrues du SUA en 2017-2018, entre autres honneurs. En 2019-2020, il a remporté le titre de Joueur par excellence du basketball masculin du SUA, une première dans l’histoire de l’Université Dalhousie. Cette saison-là, il a mené son équipe pour la moyenne de points (15,6), les minutes jouées (30,3), les rebonds (5,2), les passes décisives (5,5) et les interceptions (2,3). Le basketball fait partie intégrante de l’héritage familial de Veinot. Sa sœur jumelle, Jayda, a joué pour l’Université Acadia de 2018 à 2022, puis pour l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick de 2022 à 2024. Son père, Kevin, a été une étoile à Acadia, contribuant notamment au parcours de l’équipe de 1987-1988 jusqu’à la finale nationale. Sa mère, Jennifer Hale, a également connu beaucoup de succès, remportant deux championnats provinciaux au secondaire avec le Cobequid Education Centre et étant nommée Joueuse par excellence de l’AUAA à l’Université du Nouveau-Brunswick.
