When the CEBL Summer Series tips off in front of a nationally-televised CBC audience on July 25, viewers across Canada will see many new players, two new head coaches, an expansion team from Ottawa, the introduction of the Elam Ending to a FIBA professional league and more. To help cover this one-of-a-kind tournament, the CEBL has confirmed a partnership with Guelph-based Video Production Company, Ward 1 Studios.
The producers of the 2019 CEBL Championship Weekend Documentary, which premiered on the CBC Gem App recently, will be covering several unique storylines and engaging content from the upcoming tournament in video format for digital, social and broadcast purposes. Content will include (but is not limited to) profiling key players, staff and the games themselves. Ward 1 Studios will also produce a three-part Documentary Series covering Behind-The-Scenes footage, interesting insights and the internal workings of the CEBL and its seven teams in preparation for and during the CEBL Summer Series.
"The entire team at Ward 1 Studios is excited to welcome the return of professional basketball in Canada. With the CEBL Summer Series being played without fans in attendance, we have an opportunity to create exciting and exclusive content that will provide fans an experience like none other." says Alex Vander Vlugt, Co-founder, Ward 1 Studios.

“It is an absolute pleasure to have Ward 1 Studios come back and work collaboratively with us to produce their outstanding CEBL video content” said Mike Morreale, Commissioner & CEO of the CEBL. Ward 1 has been with us from the beginning and I'm excited to continue our relationship and watch them showcase the CEBL Summer Series to the world through their lens as we gear up to be the first professional league in Canada to return to play since the COVID-19 lockdown. I encourage you to tune into our league channels and game broadcasts to see some of their engaging content”.

The CEBL Summer Series, which brings all seven league teams to the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario for 15 days of round robin and playoff competition, begins Saturday, July 25 with a nationally-televised doubleheader on CBC. The Niagara River Lions take on the Hamilton Honey Badgers, led by new head coach Ryan Schmidt, at 1:30 pm. ET (10:30 a.m. PT). The expansion Ottawa BlackJacks, coached by Osvaldo Jeanty, make their league debut against the Guelph Nighthawks at 3:50 p.m. ET (12:50 p.m. PT). In addition to that pairing, CBC Sports will also telecast a doubleheader the following Saturday, August 1, as well as the Series semifinals and championship final August 8 and 9.

While staying in St. Catharines the teams will be separated from the general public, and strict screening and COVID-19 protocols will be adhered to under the supervision of medical officials. Extensive health and safety measures will be maintained for the participants, including social distancing and other specialized practices designed to limit interactions amongst participants.

A league created by Canadians for Canadians, the CEBL has the highest percentage of Canadian players of any professional league in the country, with 80 percent of its current rosters being Canadians. Players come from the NBA G-League, top international leagues, the Canadian National Team program, and top NCAA programs as well as from U SPORTS. The only First Division Professional League partner of Canada Basketball, the CEBL season typically runs from May through August with each team playing 20 games. More information about the league is available at www.cebl.ca
