Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatchewan Rattlers, member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), are excited to announce the re-signing of Negus Webster-Chan to their roster.
Webster-Chan returns to the Rattlers after winning the CEBL Championship with the team during its inaugural season. He has averaged 6.7 points, 1.5 assists, and just under 3 rebounds over the course of five professional seasons. In 2020, Webster-Chan averaged 12.2 points, 1.4 assists and 4.4 rebounds, in five games for the Saskatchewan Rattlers during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series . In 2019, Scarborough, Ont.-native notched a career-high 28 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists on May 11 against the Guelph Nighthawks . Webster-Chan has found a home in Saskatchewan, averaging 12.4 points, 2.1 assists and 4.3 assists over the course of his two seasons with the Rattlers.
Webster-Chan played NCAA Division 1 basketball at the University of Missouri and the University of Hawaii. Prior to joining the Rattlers, he spent two seasons with the Toronto Raptors G League affiliate, Raptors 905 where he played alongside NBA Champions Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet. The 6-foot-7 guard quickly became a fan favourite with the Rattlers in 2019 and is credited for scoring the first-ever basket in CEBL history.
“We are thrilled to have Negus back with us. Negus is someone who can shoot the ball with tremendous accuracy and is a major focus point for opposition defences,” said Rattlers GM, Barry Rawlyk. “Negus has now established himself as a fan favourite within the province and we are excited to get him back to Saskatoon.”
“I’m really excited to be back! I love playing in Saskatoon; I love the culture, I love the fans and I just love Saskatoon overall”. said Rattlers guard Negus Webster-Chan. “I’m just really excited to be able to chase another championship with the Rattlers organization. The way the fans and organization embraced me out there since my first year has been special and it has been all love since then. I’m a guy that’s big on loyalty, so I’m excited to go back to Saskatchewan to represent the Rattlers.”
The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021 starting June 5, following the success of this past year's CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ont., which saw millions of viewers across Canada and around the world tune in starting July 25 to watch 26 games played over 15 days in a single-site league competition. The CEBL became the first professional sports league in Canada to return to play after the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in mid-March shut down sports across the country.
