The Ottawa BlackJacks of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that Canadian forward Tyrell Green has re-signed with the club for the 2022 CEBL season.
A six-foot-seven forward from Toronto, Green has averaged 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 25.8 minutes in 108 games as a pro, having competed in Scotland, Canada, Finland, Hungary, Luxembourg and Sweden.
Green played 15 games with the BlackJacks last season, averaging 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He finished fourth on the team in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage (.478) and knocked down three or more three-pointers seven times, totalling 34 triples on the year. During the CEBL Championship semifinal on August 20 against Edmonton, he contributed 15 points, including four triples. He netted a season-high 22 points on July 21 against Hamilton and hit a season-high six triples the following game against Niagara.
Most recently, Green played five games with the Glasgow Rocks in the British Basketball League and averaged 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
Prior to joining the Ottawa BlackJacks, Green played in the
2020 CEBL Summer Series
for the Guelph Nighthawks, where he averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 14.1 minutes in seven games. He shot .556 (25-45) from the field and .462 (12-26) from beyond the arc.
The 26-year-old has represented Canada on multiple occasions, including one game for the senior men’s national team in 2020 during a FIBA AmeriCup qualifying game against Dominican Republic, netting a triple. He also wore his country’s colours at the 2012 U17 FIBA World Cup where he averaged 7.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 19.8 minutes in eight games and was on the national team at the 2011 U16 Americas Championship.
Green played two seasons for the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, where he averaged 9.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 21.4 minutes in 39 collegiate games. He recorded two double-doubles during his senior year. On November 11, 2017 against San Jose State, Green registered a career-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds. He played two seasons at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas before transferring to UNLV.
Green is the fifth player announced to have signed with Ottawa for the 2022 season. The BlackJacks 20-game regular season will open up with a game at home versus Fraser Valley on May 25, 2022 at 7:30pm. In addition to 10 regular season home games, the BlackJacks will be hosting the 2022 CEBL Championship Weekend from August 12-14, 2022.
