Guelph, ON – Today the Guelph Nighthawks announced the club’s biggest splash since the opening of Free Agency in February, re-signing 6’1” guard Cat Barber for the upcoming 2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League season. Barber showed himself to be a prolific offensive talent for the Nighthawks in 2021, leading the club in scoring with 17.6 points per game and passing with 4.4 assists per game, while being named as one of two Nighthawks to the All-CEBL 2nd Team.

Following the end of the 2021 CEBL season Barber returned to the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G-League where he elevated his game to another level. In 15 games with the Skyhawks Cat is currently averaging career highs with 23.0 points per game, 8.4 assists per game and shooting at 43.1% from 3-point range. On Christmas Day Barber’s G-League success was rewarded with a 10-day contract to join the Atlanta Hawks for his NBA debut at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

“Cat is a great example of how the experience garnered in the CEBL can be used as part of one’s player development path. He has continued to take strides and is currently averaging a career best 8.4 assists, which was a part of his summer focus. Cat’s growth was rewarded by a Christmas Day callup to the Atlanta Hawks. He sees value the Nighthawks can offer as part of his career and we're excited to have him back with us in Guelph this summer,” said Nighthawks Head Coach and GM Charles Kissi.

Barber commented: “You know last year we had some ups and downs and we still had a great team, but this year I’m looking forward to making a big push.”

Barber will remain with the College Park Skyhawks through the balance of their 2021-22 NBA G-League season. Cat will re-join the Nighthawks at the start of Training Camp in mid-May, leading into the club’s home opener against the Scarborough Shooting Stars on May 26th at the Sleeman Centre.
