Are we sad about it? Of course! But we also understand the why, and we have now chosen to turn our attention to being an even better league because of it.

As I type this, there are several plans in place to have the CEBL return once it's safe to do so. Like the rest of the leagues that are in a similar position we eagerly await some direction from our government officials on what the next several weeks and months could mean for a return to sports.

For now our CEBL contingency plans involve a lot of planning for “what ifs”, but they also allow for some different ways of looking at running a pro sports business. It’s easy to follow the old school way, the safe way, or the usual. But the CEBL has always tried to be somewhat unusual, somewhat different, a NEW basketball experience celebrating #OurGame. 

In many ways we were that way even before the stoppage - in-game music, countless in-arena fan activities and experiences, and brand new concepts like Championship Weekend. We are proudly Canadian, a confident flag-waving league that celebrates all our players especially our homegrown stars. We play FIBA rules for fast paced action, you can watch our teams spread from BC to Ontario for free on CBC Sports, and we are the official licensed men’s pro league of Canada Basketball. If you take a look at our 2020 team rosters you will see the talent we have been able to assemble. The best talent outside the NBA in Canada!

So having said all this I seriously hope we can bring you some CEBL basketball this summer and more importantly get back to a strong healthy community.
