Guelph Nighthawks Sign University of Alberta Star Alumnus Mamadou Gueye

The Guelph Nighthawks have signed Mamadou Gueye. Gueye joins the Nighthawks with former experience in the CEBL and following his most recent season overseas in the Japan-B3 League. 


Gueye attended the University of Alberta where he showed athleticism and consistency in his 5 seasons of play. He attained a career high 35 points against University of Regina in 2015, averaged 15 points per game, and was awarded Team MVP for three consecutive years (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18). Following his U SPORTS career, Gueye represented Team Canada in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In the Semi-Final against New Zealand, Gueye scored the 3-point buzzer-beater, with a 88-86 victory which led the team to the Finals against Australia. However, Team Canada fell short to Australia and finished on the podium as Silver medalists. Later that year, Gueye began his professional career overseas when he played for the FC Schalke in the German Pro A League. He continued to excel as he averaged 7.5 points and 4.1 rebounds in 17 games.


Gueye continued his professional career in Canada where he made his first appearance in the CEBL with the
Edmonton Stingers in 2019. He made a phenomenal impact for the Stingers, averaging 11.9 points and 1.5 assists per game in 20 games played and shooting 76.7 percent from the free throw line. Following the 2019 CEBL season, Gueye signed with the Halifax Hurricanes in the NBL-Canada averaging 26 minutes, 11.2 points, and 5.6 rebounds in 9 games. In 2020, Gueye returned to the CEBL where he signed with the Fraser Valley Bandits , however, did not play in the 2020 CEBL Summer Series . Most recently, Gueye played overseas in the Japan-B3 League with Gifu where he averaged 27.9 minutes, 20.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 33 games.

The Nighthawks start their CEBL  2021 season  on June 28. All games are available on  CBCSports.ca and the CBC Gem App via Android or iOS devices.

The CEBL led the NHL, NBA and later the CPL in  returning to play in Canada  after the coronavirus shut down the sports world in March of 2020. The  CEBL Summer Series  put professional basketball on the television and digital screens of millions of viewers across Canada and around the world, establishing the league as the top Canadian-based global team sports brand. The 2021 season set to start on June 24, will build on that momentum with an expanded viewing audience around the world, and locally through an innovative approach to addressing the uncertainties due to the pandemic around having fans in arenas across the league.
