The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League announced Tuesday February 8, the re-signing of guard, Jahmal Jones, for the 2022 season.
The returning CEBL champion averaged 6.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 23.1 minutes in 16 games played for Edmonton. He recorded five or more assists seven times in the 2021 CEBL season.
"We're happy to have Jones return, as he was an instrumental piece to our success last summer,” explained Edmonton head coach and general manager, Jermaine Small. “His IQ, defense and leadership is extremely valuable and qualities we didn't have at the position before."
Jones recently played for Edmonton in the recent Basketball Champions League of Americas (BCLA) window as the team represented Canada in the competition on account of being the 2021 CEBL champion. He averaged 21.4 minutes and 2.0 points per game over two games played. He is currently playing for Usti Nad Labem of the Czech-Republic-NBL averaging 8.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 29.6 minutes in 12 games.
“I’m looking forward to returning to the Stingers,” said Jones. “Hoping we can continue to build off the success we’ve had in the previous years.”
In university, Jones averaged 16.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 32.0 minutes in 105 regular season games played for the Ryerson Rams. He earned OUA all-star honours five times, was a CIS second-team All-Canadian in his final year and won the Ryersonian Male Athlete of the Year award twice in his university career. He led the team in scoring in 2014-15 averaging 17.2 points per game. And ended up finishing at Ryerson as the team’s second-leading scorer ever (1,773) and first all-time in assists (452) and steals (194)
