Toronto, ON:
Whereas the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) is a collection of elite Canadian players; Island Sports Network recognizes the diversity and multiculturalism in the CEBL. In combination with the electric play, terrific atmosphere, and jaw-dropping entertainment, the CEBL offers a unique and meaningful professional basketball experience to Caribbean fans abroad.
Over the years, basketball has become a global game. That said, more needs to be done in a region where cricket, and football (soccer) remain the main source of sports entertainment. However, the CEBL and ISN are now working together to change the narrative and give basketball a platform dedicated to the Caribbean sports fan.
Island Sports Network is a new sports streaming app specializing in sports that are popular with fans in the Caribbean and Canada, including football (soccer), cricket and athletics. The network launched in 2018 and are the exclusive live streaming home of the Jamaican Premier Football League, Barbados Football League and other Caribbean sports. It also covers live West Indies Cricket, Concacaf football tournaments and many other sporting events.
Together, ISN and CEBL will work on creating exposure for a sport that is going through a historic time in Canada.
“We look forward to supporting Island Sports Network in their efforts in growing the game of basketball in the Carribbean” said Mike Morreale, CEO and Commissioner of the CEBL. “My hope is that the game continues to grow in its popularity across the globe and the CEBL is committed in helping doing that by showcasing our rich and diverse talent through such partnerships”.
The inaugural season of the CEBL is well into its latter half with just six more weeks of regular season action remaining. The Niagara River Lions (11-3) have taken a commanding lead in the standings followed by the Edmonton Stingers (9-4) who are on a four game winning streak and the Hamilton Honey Badgers (8-6) in third. Championship Weekend host team, the Saskatchewan Rattlers (6-7) are in fourth.
