LANGLEY, B.C. , April 21, 2022 – The Fraser Valley Bandits announced Thursday that the club has re-signed Semiahmoo Secondary alumnus and current Alberta Golden Bear Adam Paige as a U SPORTS Development Athlete ahead of its upcoming season at Langley Events Centre (LEC).

The 2022
Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) campaign will be Paige’s second season with the Bandits. He was previously drafted ninth overall by Fraser Valley in the second round of the 2021 CEBL U SPORTS Draft.

Paige recently completed his third season at the University of Alberta where he averaged 24.7 minutes, 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 16 games (all as starter) for the Golden Bears. Prior to Alberta, Paige was a prominent member of British Columbia’s high school hoops community; helping lead the Semiahmoo Secondary Thunderbirds to the 2018 B.C. High School 4A Boys Basketball Championship. Despite coming up short in the finale, Paige was named the tournament’s most outstanding defensive player.

Paige’s decorated high school career led the way for a promising start to his post-secondary career. Since joining the Golden Bears, Paige has earned Canada West Rookie of the Year honours (2018-19) and was named to the Canadian under-19 junior national team in 2019. This past season, Paige helped the Golden Bears win a bronze medal at the U SPORTS Final 8 men’s basketball national championship.

“I am excited to return to my home province and region to suit up as part of the Bandits organization for another season. The 2021 CEBL campaign was a great chance to learn from the coaching staff and I am thrilled to be able to build upon that this summer after a bronze medal winning performance at U SPORTS Nationals,” Paige said. “I am hungry for the opportunity to learn from the coaches and to get to work with a strong roster that is eager to prove itself on the court in a new venue at LEC.”

The 22-year-old forward from Surrey, B.C. appeared in seven games for the Bandits in 2021, averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds on 57.1 per cent shooting from two-point field goal range. Paige scored a season-high four points in back-to-back games on Aug. 6 and Aug. 8 versus the Edmonton Stingers and Saskatchewan Rattlers, respectively.

Paige enjoyed the best game of his recent 2021-22 U SPORTS campaign on Nov. 27, 2021 against Calgary when he scored 24 points in 26 minutes on 9-of-17 and 4-for-6 shooting from the field and three-point range, respectively. Fast forward to the Canada West playoffs and Paige followed up a solid regular season with a 28 point outburst against Saskatchewan in a crucial 90-74 postseason win on March 18, 2022.

“Adam is the perfect example of how hard work can create opportunities for young local athletes. He has added new layers to his game in each of his seasons at Alberta and he was a positive presence in the locker room and a dedicated contributor at practices last summer. Bringing Adam back as a U SPORTS Development Athlete is a testament to the pipeline of domestic talent that the CEBL is building and we are grateful to welcome a player of Adam’s skillset back to our organization,” Bandits president Dylan Kular said.

Fraser Valley opens its fourth CEBL season on the road on Wednesday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. PT against the Ottawa BlackJacks. Following a three-game road swing to start the year, the Bandits will make their debut at LEC against the Saskatchewan Rattlers on Saturday, June 4 at 2 p.m. PT.
