Les Bandits cherchent une deuxième victoire consécutive pour leur dernier match de saison régulière contre les Shooting Stars

Les Bandits de Vancouver (+118) terminent leur campagne 2023 sur la route en rendant visite aux Shooting Stars de Scarborough (-160) dimanche soir au Centre Pan Am Sports de Toronto à 19 h HE. 

 

Le match sera diffusé en direct sur TSN+, CEBL+ optimisé par BetVictor et sur l'application CEBL Mobile disponible sur les appareils iOS et Android.

 

Il s'agira du premier et unique affrontement en saison régulière entre les deux adversaires de différentes conférences et le premier depuis que les deux équipes se sont affrontées en juillet de l'année dernière. C'est Scarborough, lors de leur saison inaugurale, qui a pris l'avantage dans la série de saison contre Vancouver en 2022, en remportant deux matchs sur trois.

 

Les Bandits abordent ce match dans la foulée de l'une de leurs victoires les plus impressionnantes de la saison, alors que l'équipe a remporté une victoire serrée de 90-89 contre les BlackJacks d'Ottawa. Non seulement ils ont fait passer la meilleure équipe de l'Est à la deuxième place, mais ils leur ont aussi infligé sa troisième défaite d'affilée.

 

C'est le trois points gagnant héroïque de Duane Notice qui a permis aux Bandits de remporter leur deuxième victoire au cours de leurs cinq dernières sorties, mais il a fallu un effort d'équipe pour en arriver là. Sept des huit joueurs de l'équipe ont marqué au moins huit points, mené sans surprise par le duo d'ailiers Giorgi Benzhanishvili et Nick Ward. 

 

Benzhanishvili a réalisé un double-double de 18 points et 11 rebonds, tandis que Ward a ajouté 25 points et sept rebonds.

 

Les deux joueurs continuent d'être des contributeurs de premier plan pour Vancouver, à la fois comme marqueurs et pour leur travail sur la planche. À la tête de la LECB comme meilleure équipe aux rebonds (43,2 RPM), leur travail pour sécuriser le ballon a été la force de l'équipe toute la saison et cela n'a pas changé jeudi, alors que les Bandits ont saisi quatre rebonds de plus que les BlackJacks. 

 

Leurs efforts leur ont également valu un avantage de +5 sur les rebonds offensifs et de +7 sur les points de deuxième chance. Les prouesses de Vancouver en matière de rebond leur ont également permis de dominer à l'intérieur, puisqu'ils ont tiré efficacement à 55 pour cent de tirs à deux points et ont terminé la soirée avec un avantage de +30 sur les points à l'intérieur de la clé. 

 

Les partisans doivent s'attendre à une bataille sur la planche, car les Shooting Stars sont également une équipe parmi les cinq meilleures au niveau des rebonds (40 RPM) et donneront aux Bandits un bon test avant que les deux équipes ne se dirigent vers l’après-saison.

 

Scarborough espère notamment un grand match de Kalif Young. Comme Ward (7,8 RPM) et Benzhanishvili (9,0 RPM), le pivot est l'un des dix meilleurs rebondeurs de la ligue (7,7 RPM) et il se battra probablement dans la clé contre le duo de Vancouver toute la soirée. Lors de la dernière sortie de Scarborough, l'ailier a fait un peu tout ce qu'il fallait pour réaliser un double-double avec 13 points, 10 rebonds et deux blocs.

 

Malgré le vaillant effort du pivot, les Shooting Stars se sont tout de même inclinés 103-86 face aux champions en titre, les Honey Badgers de Brampton, et ont ainsi mis fin à une série de trois victoires consécutives. Le match de ce soir devait également être le dernier de la saison régulière de Scarborough, mais comme le match de vendredi a été reporté au 31 juillet, il s'agira plutôt du premier d'une série de deux matchs consécutifs.

 

Dans cette défaite, l'équipe a tenu bon dans la plupart des catégories statistiques contre Brampton, mais elle a eu beaucoup de difficultés au-delà de l’arc. Scarborough n'a réussi que deux tirs de trois points, avec un taux de réussite de 10 pour cent, ce qui lui a valu -18 sur les points obtenus de la distance. La mauvaise qualité de leurs tirs, combinée à une série de 22-8 au troisième quart, est ce qui a mené à leur première défaite en quatre matchs.

 

Les Shooting Stars ont pu tirer quelques points positifs de ce match, puisqu'ils ont mené au pointage pendant les premier, deuxième et quatrième quarts, et si ce n'était du troisième quart, ils auraient pu remporter quatre victoires consécutives. L'équipe cherchera à réaliser une performance complète de 40 minutes pour essayer de revenir dans la colonne des victoires.

 

Les partisans de Scarborough devraient également garder un œil sur Cat Barber, car le meilleur marqueur de l'équipe n'est qu'à sept points d'atteindre la marque de 1000 points pour sa carrière dans la LECB. S'il atteint cette marque ce soir, il sera le deuxième joueur de l'histoire de la ligue à y parvenir, deux jours seulement après que son ancien coéquipier Ahmed Hill l'ait fait.

 

En ce qui concerne les implications pour les séries éliminatoires, en tant que ville hôte, Vancouver est assurée d'une place pour la fin de semaine du Championnat, donc une victoire ou une défaite ne changera pas grand chose à leur positionnement, mais une victoire pourrait les aider à prendre de l'élan avant le début des séries éliminatoires.

 

Les Shooting Stars ont déjà décroché une place en séries éliminatoires, mais l'équipe a la possibilité de faciliter son chemin vers une deuxième participation consécutive aux finales si elle gagne pour terminer la saison. Si Scarborough remporte ses deux derniers matchs, ils dépasseront les BlackJacks pour la deuxième place dans l'Est, ce qui lui permettra d'éviter le tour préliminaire.

The Winnipeg Sea Bears are pleased to announce that they have agreed to terms with forward Nathan Bilamu for the upcoming season. Bilamu (6-5; born August 7, 2000 in Hamilton, ON) returns to Winnipeg after a productive 2025 season with the Sea Bears in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL). In his rookie professional season with Winnipeg, he appeared in 20 games and averaged 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, showing consistent effort and earning increased playing time as the season progressed. “We are excited to have Nate back as he builds on what he started here," said Head Coach and General Manager, Mike Raimbault. "Last summer he brought a tremendous commitment to the team, specifically a passion for winning that showed in his effort and willingness to do whatever it took to help this group.” Before joining Winnipeg, Bilamu enjoyed a standout university career at Lakehead University, where he emerged as a versatile two-way player. In his senior season (2024-25), Bilamu averaged 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. He was named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) First-Team All-Star and a U-SPORTS Second-Team All-Canadian. Following his time in the CEBL, Bilamu continued his professional career overseas with Esgueira Basket in Portugal’s Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol. Through early 2025-26 international competition, he has been a key rotation player, averaging around 12.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while logging significant minutes. The Winnipeg Sea Bears are pleased to announce that they have agreed to terms with point guard Xavier Moon for the 2026 season. Moon (6-2; Morehead State; born January 2, 1995, in Goodwater, AL) is a three-time Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Player of the Year and brings elite scoring, playmaking ability, and professional experience from international leagues, the CEBL, and the NBA. The Goodwater, Alabama native played two seasons at Northwest Florida State College, helping the program win the National Junior College Championship. He later transferred to Morehead State, where he played two seasons and averaged 16.0 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in his senior year, earning First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference honours. "I believe adding Xavier to our organization brings tremendous value both on and off the court. The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) are excited to announce John Ross as assistant general manager. John has spent the better part of the past two decades working in basketball, highlighted by over 14 years with the Portland Trail Blazers and more recently as an assistant coach with the Western Conference Champion Calgary Surge in 2025. With Portland, John worked as a video coordinator with both the coaching and scouting staff. He played a pivotal role in the organization's 2009-2011 stretch of playoff appearances, and also their rebuild starting with the draft acquisitions of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. This backcourt duo was the catalyst for eight consecutive playoff appearances between 2014-2021, including a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2019. “Basketball is one of my deepest passions, and I am very grateful to be able to continue my career in this game with the Honey Badgers,” said Ross. “I could not be more excited to work alongside Al [Whitley] and Jermaine [Anderson] to help put together a team that will not only excel on the court, but also in the Peel and Brampton community.” Since moving on from the Trail Blazers in 2022, John has expanded his work experience to both coaching, and teaching. As an assistant coach with the Calgary Surge in 2025, he helped lift the Surge to their second finals appearance in franchise history, after posting a 17-7 record on the season. In terms of teaching, John founded an organization called GET IN THE GAME 101, an educational resource designed to assist young adults in answering the question “What do I do to get a job in the NBA?”.
