CEBL Announces Honey Badgers Roster Ahead of Second Stage of Basketball Champions League of Americas

The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced the Brampton Honey Badgers roster Friday ahead of the second window of the FIBA Basketball Champions League of Americas (BCLA) group stage action scheduled to begin Monday, January 16 at the Poliderportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua. 


The Honey Badgers are representing the CEBL by virtue of having won the 2022 CEBL Championship and will go into this upcoming window in search of their first win in this BCLA group stage competition. The BCLA brings together 12 teams representing seven countries from the Americas, competing over the course of four months to win a berth in the 2024 FIBA International Cup, one of professional basketball’s most prestigious international championship events. 


The roster for the second window is comprised of six Canadians and five international players. Four of the six Canadians played in the first window of group stage action including Brampton natives Alex Campbell, Jahvon Blair and Sean Miller-Moore as well as Kitchener native Murphy Burnatowski. Winnipeg native Chad Posthumus has also been included to the roster. The 6-foot-11 forward was part of the Edmonton Stingers BCLA roster a year ago and finished sixth in rebounding (8.3) with the Ottawa BlackJacks during the 2022 CEBL season.


Dominican Republic Senior Men’s National team member and Dominican-American guard Gelvis Solano, who has played 192 games as a professional across seven countries, also returns to the roster along with Texas native Josh Ibarra, whose 11 rebounds a game average ranks second in BCLA competition this winter.


Also included on the roster is Canadian Shane Osayande, formerly of the CEBL’s Saskatchewan Rattlers, and a pair of Americans from Illinois - Steve Taylor Jr., who has four years of international professional experience playing in Hungary, Australia, Italy and Venezuela, Rayvonte Rice, who last played for the Salt Lake City Stars of the NBA G League, and American-Puerto Rican Tyquan Rolon, who last played in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional (PR BSN).

The Honey Badgers will play Libertadores on Tuesday, January 17 before taking on home team Real Estelí on Wednesday, January 18. Both games will tipoff at 8 p.m. ET. 


All games will be live streamed internationally on CEBL’s OTT platform, CEBL+ and the CEBL Mobile app for iOS and Android devices.


The competition window hosted by Canada at the CAA Centre in Brampton and will begin February 7 when Brampton takes on Real Estelí. The two visiting teams, Real Estelí and Libertadores, will then face each other February 8, while the Honey Badgers play Libertadores on February 9. A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 percent of its 2022 rosters being Canadian. Players bring experience from the NBA, NBA G League, top international pro leagues, the Canadian National team program, and top NCAA programs as well as U SPORTS. Nine players have moved from the CEBL into the NBA following a CEBL season, and 28 CEBL players attended NBA G League training camps during October.
