EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Saturday the signing of 6’10” American forward Carlton Bragg Jr. The former Kansas Jayhawk and New Mexico Lobo is currently completing his third professional season with Ankaragucu of the Turkish TBL, averaging 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
“I’m looking forward to the fans that will be supporting us to be successful by winning games and playing hard every night,” said Bragg Jr. “I’m also looking forward to changing lives and being a role model for the youth. I believe we have a chance to make it a special summer and memorable one. Can’t wait to be there.”
With Ankaragucu, Bragg Jr. has also led his team in field goal percentage and blocks while ranking second in scoring. Prior to this season, Bragg Jr. suited up for the Marineros de Puerto Plata of the Dominican league, the LNB, and Balikesitr of the TBL. In Turkey, he averaged a double-double, scoring 17.3 points to go alongside 11.8 rebounds per game, a team-best. In his professional rookie season in 2020-2021, the forward played for ERA Nymburk of the Czech Mattoni NBL and Twarde Pierniki Toruń of the Polish PLK, both leagues ranking as their nation’s top level of competition.
Collegiately, Bragg Jr. split time between the University of New Mexico and Kansas University. From 2018-2020, he averaged 11.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in 39 appearances (34 starts) for the Lobos. As a member of the KU Jayhawks from 2015-2017, the forward managed 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 62 contests.
"Carlton brings length and athleticism to the Stingers lineup.” said Stingers head coach Jordan Baker. “His ability to protect the rim and play in transition makes him an excellent addition.”
The Stingers begin their 2023 season with back-to-back games against the Calgary Surge May 27 and 28, first in Calgary then at home at the Flair Airlines Hangar in the Edmonton EXPO Centre. With the home opener officially sold out, tickets to all remaining home games are still available online (www.thestinger.ca/tickets) or by contacting the Stingers front office via email ([email protected]) or phone (1-87STINGERS). Special rates for group tickets and flex packs are available.
