The Scarborough Shooting Stars of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed 6’2” point guard, Cat Barber. Barber becomes the team’s second player signing of the season, joining forward Kalif Young on the Shooting Stars 2023 roster.
“Cat is a tremendous point guard that brings veteran leadership and a steady presence to our team. Cat has a wealth of experience and has played at the highest levels all over the world, his familiarity with our league is an added bonus,” said general manager Brady Heslip. “We love his competitive fire and will look to him to establish himself as a proven leader among our group. We are expecting big things out of Cat this season and are thrilled to have him on board."
The Virginia native averages 15.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 0.9 steals in 29.2 minutes per game over 295 professional games. He most recently played for the College Park Skyhawks of the NBA G League, where he averaged 10.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 20.7 minutes per game through 26 games. In December 2021, Barber registered his first career triple-double in points (20), rebounds (10) and assists (10) for the Skyhawks before signing a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA.
The NC State alum ranks 17 in Wolfpack history with 1516 career points and 8 in school history with 403 assists. In his junior and final year, Barber led the ACC with 28.7 minutes per game as well as eight games of at least 30 points. He set an NC State record with 237 made free throws. He was voted ACC Player of the Week three times, 2016 First Team All-ACC by media and coaches and NABC All-District First Team.
Following an impressive inaugural season, the Shooting Stars open their 2023 season on May 26 at the CAA Centre, in a rematch of last year’s CEBL championship game versus the Brampton Honey Badgers.
