River Lions Sign Maurice Calloo to Assist With Their Championship Weekend Push

Jul 20, 2024

St. Catharines, ON - The Niagara River Lions announced today the signing of 6’10 Canadian forward, Maurice Calloo. Calloo, a 24 year-old from Windsor, Ontario started the 2024 CEBL season with the Saskatchewan Rattlers where he averaged 14.1 points and 6.2 rebounds over 10 games.

“We are excited to add Maurice to our roster to end the season,” said Head Coach and General Manager, Victor Raso. “Being able to add a talented Canadian like Mo, at this point in our season, to help bolster our roster for our playoff run is incredibly valuable.”

Calloo played two seasons with the
Oregon State Beavers, averaging 8.6 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 35.6% from three during his senior year. Calloo’s ability to stretch the floor helped the Beavers win their first Pac-12 tournament title in 2021 where he scored a team high 15 points. This performance along with others earned the Beavers a spot in March Madness where they reached the Elite Eight for the first time since 1982. In this game Calloo led the 12 seed Beavers with 13 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 57% from the field. Calloo’s ability to show up in big games was showcased during this run and led to him representing Canada at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup where they made the semifinals.

Calloo started his professional career in the
CEBL with the Guelph Nighthawks (now Calgary Surge) in 2021 where he made an instant impact averaging 11.1 points. Calloo also showcased his ability to stretch the floor at the professional level shooting 50.7% from the field and 38.9% from three. This strong start to his pro career has earned Calloo opportunities in the NBA G-League with the Windy City Bulls and the Salt Lake City Stars. Calloo is also well travelled in his three years as a pro playing for Grengewald in Luxembourg and Bank of Taiwan in Taiwan. While overseas Calloo dominated the competition averaging 27.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over 28 games in the two leagues. Calloo also recorded his professional career high in points with 44 in January of 2024.

Calloo joins the River Lions this summer to help the teams as they look to earn a spot at Championship Weekend. “I’m grateful and blessed to join a championship caliber team,” said Calloo. “I am excited to make a meaningful contribution to this organization down the final stretch of the CEBL season.”
