EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday the signing of American point guard Jordan Burns. The 6’0” San Antonio native is completing his second pro season after four years at Colgate.
“I look forward to being a part of this great organization, getting another chance to win a title and seeing more of Canada,” said Burns. “I believe the team will have another great season and that hopefully we’ll be able to bring another trophy back to the city of Edmonton.”
Burns is currently playing for the London Lightning of the NBLC, averaging 20.8 points per game. Earlier this season, Burns suited up for the Caledonia Gladiators and the Twarde Pierniki Toruń of the Ukrainian and Polish first league respectively. Burns averaged double digit scoring on both teams.
In the 2021-22 season, Burns appeared on four teams, including the Lightning and Beroe of in the Bulgarian NBL. To start the season, Burns spent time in the NBA G League, playing for the Maine Celtics and Austin Spurs, averaging 4.5 points in 12 games and 1 start between the two clubs.
Collegiately, Burns played in 111 games with Colgate, averaging 15.0 points per game in that time. As a senior, he managed a career best 16.8 points to go along with 5,3 assists and 4.3 rebounds and was named Patriot League Player of the Year. He set his career high in scoring during his junior year, posting 40 points in a win over the Green Bay Patriots.
His sophomore year saw him lead Colgate to a NCAA Tournament appearance, where he scored 32 points in a first-round loss to the second seed Tennesse. Burns made the Patriot League All-Rookie Team in his first season with the team after averaging 11.9 points per game.
The Stingers begin their 2023 season with back-to-back games against the Calgary Surge May 27 and 28, first in Calgary then at home at the Flair Airlines Hangar in the Edmonton EXPO Centre.
