Edmonton Stingers and Jermaine Small Part Ways

November 24, 2022

EDMONTON, AB- The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Thursday that head coach and general manager Jermaine Small will not be returning for a fifth season in 2023. Small has been released from his contract so that he can focus full-time on his role as head coach of the men’s basketball program at the University of Lethbridge.

“We appreciate the contributions Jermaine Small made to the Edmonton Stingers organization, which were highlighted by building a team that won the CEBL championship in 2020 and successfully defending it in 2021,” said Edmonton team president Reed Clarke. “Jermaine was the CEBL Coach of the Year during our two championship seasons and established a culture of winning that we can build upon. We are well positioned to begin a new era of Stingers basketball, and I expect to be in a position to announce the details of that in the near future.”

Small departs Edmonton with a regular season record of 42-18 (70%) and a playoff record of 4-2 (66%). The Stingers finished sixth in the 2022 CEBL standings with a record of 10-10 and were eliminated by a 94-91 loss at Saskatchewan in the opening round of the playoffs.
